Citizenship

Becoming a citizen of the United States. For some, it is a right granted at birth. For others, it represents a goal achieved only after years of effort. And for many others, it is a dream that won’t be realized.

The laws regulating the citizenship process, also know as naturalization, have evolved through the years, and some in the community think it is time for another change. The notion of birthright citizenship, currently granted under the 14th Amendment, has been challenged by some who argue the child of an undocumented immigrant should not receive automatic citizenship simply for being born in America.

Others say a path to citizenship should be created for the undocumented who are already here, particularly those who were brought to the U.S. as minors. The DREAM Act would provide this path for millions of undocumented youth.

Should these or other changes be made to the citizenship process?
