Refugees

Around the world every year, millions of people are forced to leave their home country due to persecution or fear of persecution. They are uprooted and displaced against their will. They are refugees.

Most refugees take shelter at camps in developing countries, but some qualify for resettlement through international humanitarian efforts. The U.S. has been at the forefront of resettlement efforts for years and accepts tens of thousands of refugees annually.

While they come to America to rebuild their lives, refugees are not guaranteed success. They face challenges integrating both economically and socially, often depending on local support organizations. Communities must decide how they will address the needs of this unique immigrant population.
