Immigration — The Tourist Analogy
What has your experience been when traveling outside the United States?
When exploring immigration topics, Homeland team members often find it helpful to make the topic more easily relatable through examples. Likewise, when I attended a meeting with the Saint Louis Young Republicans, I found that they had a great analogy for discussing assimilation.
In the first segment of this series with the Young Republicans we heard their views on media coverage of immigration, and in segment two we heard about the issue of rules and schools. In this piece several of the Young Republican members share their experience as tourists and how they prepared for their travels, including familiarizing themselves with other cultures.
If you have traveled abroad, how did you prepare to integrate with another culture? What is your view on different countries’ policies regarding tourism? Does relating your own travel experiences to immigration give you a sense of what life is like for an immigrant?
